Contemporary Art at 2,039m above sea level
Have you ever seen 100 life-sized, solid cast iron figures in mountain scenery? No? Well, then it’s about time to hike through the largest landscape exhibition in Austria. “Horizon Field” is an art project by the British artist Antony Gormley as well as being located in the mountains of Vorarlberg.
10 reasons why this art project is a MUST SEE:
- It’s the largest landscape intercession in Austria.
- 100 life-sized, solid iron figures of the human body, situated at exactly 2,039m above sea level, is not something that is seen every day.
- View them over the various seasons and see how their surface is changed because of environmental influences, such as snow, wind, sun and hard rain or hail.
- Through looking at the life-sized figures, try to answer the artists questions: “Who are we as a species, what are we, where do we come from and where are we headed?”.
- The Horizon Fields exhibition is spread over 150 square kilometres of mountainous landscapes – choose one of the many and varied hiking paths.
- Starting from Hotel Goldener Berg, more than 80 figures are located in the hiking area of Lech-Zürs.
- The space between the solid-cast iron figures varies from 60 metres to several kilometres all of which leads to a special hiking experience in Vorarlberg’s Mountains.
- Feel the connection between humans, the natural environment, as well as to geological and meteorological influences
- The landscape exhibition will only be displayed until April 2012- so, plan your trip today!
We recommend a hiking trip or even a skiing trip in winter to the mountain scenery of Vorarlberg to experience this amazing kind of contemporary art near Oberlech.
